Why reclaimed engineered antique heart pine?

In the early centuries of the United States, buildings and homes were built using timber from virgin forests.   Many of these trees were hundreds of years old at the time they were harvested.   One of the most commonly used trees was the Longleaf Heart Pine which flourished throughout the Southeastern portion of the country.   These trees were especially coveted for their superior strength where large timbers were hand hewn and used in structures like factories, warehouses, barns, and piers.  These are the source of the materials we use in flooring products.   Heart Pine was also used in the construction of many of the finest homes built during that time, both here and abroad, because of its superior warmth and beauty….A quality that remains one of its hallmarks.  

Today there is less that 10% of that original virgin Heart Pine forest left and are off limits to harvesting in an effort to save what little remains.   While reforestation has increased the regeneration of these trees over the last several years, nothing can compare to the rich patinas of antique Heart Pine or the strength associated with true old growth timber.

Engineered floors are one of the most environmentally friendly wood flooring product available and Reclaimed engineered floors are even more so. Engineered flooring uses up to 85% more of the tree than typical solid wood flooring, producing less waste that has to be disposed of. Because of how they are manufactured, engineered floors use less of the tree per square foot of flooring produced.  

In other words, we harvest fewer trees, to produce more flooring, with less waste than solid wood flooring.
